Addis Ababa, 9 January 2015: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, welcomes the efforts being made by the Government of Djibouti and the National Salvation Union (USN) within the framework of the implementation of the Agreement that the two parties concluded, in Djibouti, on 30 December 2014. She notes, in particular, the return to the National Assembly of all the USN Members of Parliament, thus enabling the full participation of the opposition in the political life of the country.
The Chairperson of the Commission encourages the parties to the Agreement to pursue their efforts, in order to create a more conducive political climate and to consolidate the democratic gains made by Djibouti. She expresses the readiness of the AU to support, as necessary, the implementation of the Agreement.
The Chairperson of the Commission commends President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh for his strong commitment to dialogue and for all the steps taken by his Government to successfully conclude the negotiations with the opposition, to the benefit of national harmony and prosperity for the people of Djibouti.
