The Quintet (AU, IGAD, LAS, EU and UN), remains committed to supporting an inclusive, Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned political process aimed at advancing prospects for a sustainable peace in Sudan.

In this context, and as a follow-up to the conference in Berlin in April, the Quintet conducted consultations with a broad spectrum of Sudanese political and civilian stakeholders in Addis Ababa between 3 to 5 June. These consultations explored possible pathways toward the establishment of the proposed Preparatory Committee for an inclusive inter-Sudanese political dialogue.

At a time when Sudan continues to face profound political, humanitarian, and security challenges, the Quintet views these consultations as an important opportunity to encourage dialogue among Sudanese civilians and political actors, foster confidence-building measures, and support efforts to establish a credible and inclusive political process capable of addressing the root causes of the conflict and laying the foundations for a just and sustainable peace.

The consultations in Addis Ababa have been challenging but fruitful. We witnessed some Sudanese stakeholders from across the spectrum, actively working together to produce draft texts. The Sudanese have handed over written submissions to the Quintet and additional submissions will also be made. The Quintet is confident the basis for substantive discussions with an expanded set of stakeholders representing a wider spectrum of Sudanese voices, is being established.

The Quintet remains committed to accompanying Sudanese stakeholders in their efforts to advance a peaceful and inclusive political process, within a coherent and coordinated framework supported by regional and international partners.

The Quintet reaffirms its full respect of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. It rejects any attempt to undermine these principles, including through the imposition of parallel governing structures that risk further fragmenting the Sudanese state. It calls on all those with influence to support these de-escalation efforts and help create conditions conducive to a negotiated and durable peace.
