The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), at its 871st meeting held on 22 August 2019, received a briefing from the Republic of Angola on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republics of Rwanda and Uganda, in Luanda, Angola.

Council welcomed the signing, in Luanda, Angola, of a Memorandum of Understanding, on 21 August 2019, between the Republics of Rwanda and Uganda aimed at improving the bilateral relations between the two sisterly countries. Council commended President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, for reaching an amicable settlement of the differences between the two countries and encouraged them to faithfully honour and fulfill all the commitments made in the signed Memorandum of Understanding.

Council commended the facilitation efforts by President João Lourenço of Angola, and those of President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo and President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, in his capacity as Chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).

Council agreed to remain seized of the matter.
