As part of its mandate to promote the rule of law and constitutionalism in Africa, the Constitutionalism and Rule of Law Unit of the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security organized an expert meeting for the development of learners’ manuals for the AU Strategy for the inclusion and mainstreaming of the ACDEG in school curricula in Dakar, Senegal from May 2-7, 2023.
This meeting brought together the members of the Steering committee, representatives from PAPS and ESTI Departments, representatives from the ministry of National education from Senegal and CSOs.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the government of Senegal represented Mrs. Aissatou Lena Sene from the ministry of National education. During the ceremony, Amb Calixte Aristide Mbari, head of Democracy Elections and Constitutionalism and Mr. Fabio Bargiacchi, Founder and Executive Director of the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) delivered the welcome remarks.
The team concluded, over the course of six days, working sessions to complete three (03) Manuals for the learners for primary and secondary schools. These manuals will be reviewed together with the teachers guides by the representatives of the AU member states, RECs/RMs, and AU organs.
This activity is organized with the support of European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES https://www.eces.eu/en/) with the financial support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation through the joint Italy-Africa Peace Facility and within the framework of the second Phase of the Pro-Electoral Integrity project (https://pro-electoralintegrity.eu/) that supported all the different meetings of this action.
