The African Union stresses the imperative of the restoration of public order and the protection of the civilian populations in the Central African Republic
Addis Ababa, 6 December 2013: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, continues to closely monitor, with utmost concern, the evolution of the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR). She reiterates the strong condemnation by the AU of the abuses and other massive violations of human rights that continue to be committed against the civilian populations. She stresses the urgent need to do everything necessary to bring this unacceptable situation to an end.

The First meeting of African Regional Counter-Terrorism Coordinators opens in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, 9 December 2013: The First Meeting of African Regional Counter-Terrorism Coordinators opened on Friday, 6 December 2013, in Addis Ababa under the theme: Enhancing Counter-Terrorism Coordination at the Regional and Continental Levels. The meeting has brought together counter-terrorism coordinators from the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), experts, the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) and the AU Commission.

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), at its 407th meeting held on 4 December 2013, devoted an open session to the theme: “Women, children and other vulnerable groups in conflict situations in Africa”. The meeting was held in pursuance of the decision adopted by Council at its 223rd meeting held on 30 March 2010, to convene such a session once every year.

African Union concludes Consultative Workshop to review AU DDR Operational Guidance
Addis Ababa, 4 December 2013 – The Commission of the African Union (AU), convened a two day consultative workshop from 3-4 December 2013, to review the AU DDR operational guidance documents on issues of Detention, Women and Children in armed conflict, Reintegration and developing frameworks for National DDR initiatives, which will assist the AU’s engagement in DDR related activities.
