Remarks by the Chairperson of the Commission on the 7th consultative meeting between the members of the United Nations Security Council and the Peace and Security Council of the African Union
Members of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, Members of the United Nations Security Council, Ladies and gentlemen, It gives me a pleasure to address this joint consultative meeting between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Security Council. This gathering is a further testimony of the growing partnership between the African Union and the United Nations. I have no doubt that your meeting will agree on further steps aimed at enhancing the relationship between the two organs. Indeed, our capacity to meet the ever complex and changing peace and security challenges confronting the African continent is contingent upon our commitment to work together and the judicious combination of our respective comparative advantages.

The African Union calls for international assistance to facilitate the operationalization of the international support mission in the Central African Republic
Addis Ababa, 7 October 2013: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, took the opportunity of the meeting she had this morning with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Central African Republic (CAR) and Head of the UN Integrated Office in the CAR (BINUCA), General Babacar Gaye, to launch an urgent appeal to the international community to provide the necessary support towards the rapid operationalization of the African-led International Support Mission in the CAR (AFISM-CAR). Referring to the serious security and humanitarian situation on the ground, the Chairperson of the Commission stressed the need for urgent international action.

United Nations-African Union Joint Task Force on Peace and Security Holds Seventh Consultative Meeting in New York, on 30 September
PRESS RELEASE On 30 September 2013, the United Nations-African Union Joint Task Force on Peace and Security held its seventh consultative meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the margins of the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting was co-chaired by the UN Deputy-Secretary-General, Mr. Jan Eliasson, and President Abdulsalami Abubakar of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel.
