Addis Ababa, 27 July 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, condemns, in the strongest terms, the bombings that were carried out by the Al Shabaab terrorist group in the proximity of the AMISOM and UN Base Camps, as well as the Mogadishu International Airport, on 26 July 2016.

The Chairperson is outraged by the loss of lives of innocent civilians and AMISOM personnel. She is also appalled by the destruction of property that resulted from the bombings.

The Chairperson expresses her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to all those injured. She also expresses her solidarity with the Government and people of Somalia, as well as Troop and Police Contributing Countries.

The Chairperson stresses that these terrorist acts will not weaken the resolve of the African Union to support the Government and people of Somalia in their stabilization efforts including the holding of elections later this year.
