Addis Ababa, 29 November 2013: The Commission of the African Union (AU) and the Austrian Government, today, signed an Agreement, under which the Austrian Government would provide, through the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), 1,000,000 Euros in support of the implementation of the AU Gender, Peace and Security Programme (GPSP). The signing ceremony took place at the AU Headquarters, in Addis Ababa. Mr. El Ghassim Wane, Director of the AU Peace and Security Department, signed the Agreement on behalf of the AU, and Mr. Heinz Habertheuer, Head of the Coordination Office for Development Cooperation in the Austrian Embassy, signed it on behalf of ADA, in the presence of Dr. Gundruf Graf, Austrian Ambassador to Ethiopia.

The GPSP has been formulated by the Commission to serve as a framework in the area of gender, peace and security, women's rights and protection during conflict and post-conflict settings, with the objective of strengthening women’s participation in the promotion of peace and security. The GPSP is part of AU’s efforts to implement United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 and relevant AU instruments.
