AMISOM Somalia

Addis Ababa, 19 April 2012: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Jean Ping, welcomes the new contribution made by the United Kingdom in support of the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). This uncaveated contribution of just over 16 million pounds sterling to the United Nations Trust Fund to AMISOM will be used to reimburse the costs for leasing Contingent Owned Equipment from April 2011 to February 2012, as well as to procure assets required for the provision of further support to the Mission.

The Chairperson of the Commission expresses the gratitude of the AU to the Government of the United Kingdom for its continued assistance and contribution to the enhancement of the capacity of AMISOM, as evidenced by earlier financial contributions and the convening of the London Conference on Somalia, in February 2012.
