Addis Ababa, 15 September 2012: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Jean Ping, is closely following the ongoing efforts to deepen democracy in Togo and create conditions for the smooth holding of the forthcoming local and legislative elections.
In this respect, the Chairperson of the Commission notes with satisfaction the conclusions reached on13 September 2012, following the political dialogue that brought together the Prime Minister of Togo, political parties and civil society organizations. These relate to the Electoral Code and demarcation of electoral constituencies, as well as to institutional and constitutional reforms.
The Chairperson of the Commission encourages the continuation of the ongoing efforts and calls on all the political stakeholders to commit to dialogue with the view to finding consensual solutions to all issues of concern.
