Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 20 June 2017: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, is horrified by the suicide car-bomb attack at Wadajir district headquarters in Mogadishu. The attack that took place on 20 June 2017, which was  claimed by the Al Shabaab terrorist group, resulted in the death of at least 15 people, and left many more injured.

The Chairperson of the Commission conveys the AU’s heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes speedy recovery to all the injured. He assures the Government and people of Somalia of the AU’s unwavering support, through the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) which, and working with the Somali National Security Forces, to continue to degrade the ability of Al Shabaab to recruit, train and carry out attacks in the country. 

The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates his call for enhanced international cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism, and assures of the AU’s commitment to the realization of peace and stability in Somalia.
