Addis Ababa, 15 June 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AU), H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the complex terror attack that was carried out yesterday against a popular Restaurant in Mogadishu, Somalia, and the subsequent hostage situation that lasted till the early hours of today, reportedly resulting in over a dozen causalities and several other people injured.

The Chairperson expresses the AU's heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes speedy recovery to those wounded. He reiterated the AU’s solidarity with the Government and people of Somalia and its continued commitment to support the country in restoring peace and security.

The Chairperson stresses the need for renewed and enhanced support to AMISOM and the Somali national security institutions as they combat the scourge of terrorism across the country.
