Addis Ababa, 15 June 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AU), H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, is shocked and saddened by the assassination of Lipolelo Alice Thabane, the wife of Lesotho’s incoming Prime Minister in Ha-Masana on 14 June 2017, in the outskirts of Maseru.

The Chairperson expresses the AU's heartfelt condolences to the family of incoming Prime Minister H.E. Thomas Thabane, the Government and people of Lesotho. The Chairperson appeals for calm in this difficult time of mourning. He further calls on the national authorities to bring the perpetrators of such heinous act to justice.

 

The Chairperson encourages all stakeholders to work in unity of purpose with the newly elected leaders.
