The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has learned with sadness and shock the news of the assassination, on 25 July 2013, of Mr. Mohamed Brahmi, a prominent member of the Nationalist Movement of the People Party and a member of the National Constituent Assembly. She strongly condemns this criminal act, and is confident that the Tunisian authorities will spare no efforts in ensuring that its perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

The Chairperson of the Commission appeals to the all the Tunisian stakeholders and people to remain steadfast in their efforts and to uphold the spirit of tolerance and compromise needed to complete the current transition and build a prosperous and peaceful Tunisia in fulfillment of the  aspirations of the January 2011 Revolution.
