The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), at its 727th meeting held on 27 October 2017, received a briefing on the developments of the situation in Burundi.

Council took note of the briefing by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of External Relations and International Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi, Dr. Jean De Dieu Ndikumana, on the situation in Burundi. Council also took note of the statements made by the representative of Egypt, in its capacity as an African Member of the United Nations Security Council (A3) and by the representatives of the United Nations and the European Union. 

Council congratulated Mr. Basile Ikouebe, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo, on his appointment as the new Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission for the Great Lakes Region and Head of the AU Liaison Office in Burundi. Council wished him success in his new assignment.  

Council agreed to convene a meeting to receive a more comprehensive briefing from the Commission and other relevant stakeholders on the evolution of the situation in Burundi.

Council agreed to remain seized of the matter.
