Addis Abéba, 2 june 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) on Sudan, former President Thabo Mbeki, met with the President of the National Umma Party, Imam Sadiq al-Mahdi for consultations on the outstanding issues regarding Sudan’s peace processes. The meeting took place in Johannesburg today.

Imam Al-Mahdi drew attention to the need for such consultations on aspects of the Roadmap Agreement of March 21, 2016.

The meeting agreed that parties that are not yet signatories to the Roadmap Agreement who might require further clarity may formally present the issues to the AUHIP, after receipt of which the Panel will interact with them regarding the next steps.

Both the AUHIP and Imam Al-Mahdi observed the need urgently to resolve all outstanding matters relating to the peace process in Sudan.
