Abuja, 21 February 2023: His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, former President of the Republic of Kenya has arrived in Abuja on 21 February 2023 to lead the 90-member African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) ahead of the 25 February 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In the coming days, the Head of AUEOM will also be engaging with a range key electoral stakeholders including the Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission, presidential candidates, Inspector General of Police as well as leaders of international election observation missions and the African Group of Ambassadors in Nigeria, among others.
Former President Kenyatta will also attend the signing of the Peace Accord by the presidential candidates on 22 February 2022 in Abuja whose aim is to promote peaceful, democratic and credible elections.
After the elections, the Head of the AUEOM will issue a preliminary statement on the findings about the electoral process through a joint press conference with the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission on 27 February 2023.
