Beijing, 3 September 2018: The African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, met President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, Chair of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, this morning in Beijing, on the sidelines of the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC),


The Chairperson of the Commission and President Sassou Nguesso expressed their concern over the deteriorating situation in Libya. They reaffirmed their common desire to help the Libyan actors overcome the serious crisis facing their country. To this end, they agreed to re-launch the preparations for a national reconciliation conference that is inclusive and representative of all Libyan parties, as provided for in the Roadmap adopted by the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, at its 4th meeting held Brazzaville in September 2017. Consultations will be held with the Libyan parties, the United Nations and other relevant actors.
