Addis Ababa, 1st October 2016 :  The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, today, appointed Mrs. Wahida Ayari, of Tunisia, as her new Special Representative for Libya and Head of the African Union Liaison Office in Libya (AULOL), in replacement of Mr. Mondher Rezgui.

Mrs. Ayari is currently Minister Plenipotentiary, and Deputy Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia. She has extensive diplomatic experience in African affairs as she served as Deputy Director for relations with the African Union and was a member of the Tunisian delegation to several Ordinary and Extraordinary AU Summits.

The Chairperson is confident that Mrs. Ayari’s appointment will enhance the critical role the AULOL is currently playing in supporting the political and security developments in Libya, and the AU’s overall objective of restoring lasting peace and stability in the country.

The Chairperson of the Commission would like to take this opportunity to express her sincere appreciation to Mr. Mondher Rezgui, the outgoing Head of the AULOL, for his service and dedication in advancing AU’s efforts for a successful democratic transition in Libya.

Mrs. Ayari holds a Master in Law from the University of Tunis and attended different courses and trainings in public diplomacy in France and the USA.

Mrs. Ayari is married and has two children. She is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
