Addis Ababa, 7 March 2013: Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, Commissioner for Peace and Security met, yesterday, with Ambassador Jerry P. Lanier, Principal Deputy Coordinator of the U.S. State Department Bureau of Counterterrorism, at the AU Headquarters. 

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss various issues of concern, including the AU and U.S. efforts to assist in building Member States’ capacity to prevent and fight terrorism.

In this regard, Ambassador Lamamra and Ambassador Lanier discussed current and future collaboration in the area of counter-terrorism within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on AU-U.S partnership, signed on 30 January 2013.

The meeting also reviewed the situation Mali, Somalia and the fight against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), in light of AU’s efforts and related US support.
