Addis Ababa, 24 March 2014: The Commissioner for Peace and Security, Amb. Smail Chergui, met with the British Ambassador to the African Union, Mr Greg Dorey, during which they exchanged views on a number of African peace and security issues and the up-coming EU/ Africa Summit which will take place in April 2014.

With regard to Somalia, the two expressed satisfaction with the military progress being made by the joint operations of the Somalia National Army (SNA) and AMISOM and emphasized the need for urgent and effective stabilization of the recovered areas through the establishment of local administration for service delivery on a sustainable basis. The Ambassadors called on partners and the international community to increase their support to the Federal Government of Somalia.

In South Sudan, it was imperative that the stabilization force be deployed without any further delay, it was opined.

On the EU/Africa Summit, it was emphasized that the outcome of the meeting should be substantive with mutually beneficial and actionable resolutions.
